Website design for Canie.org
CANIE (Climate Action Network for International Educators) is a grassroots initiative of international education practitioners worldwide who recognize the need and opportunity for our sector to act on climate change.
The Challenge
The CANIE team contacted us to redesign its website to modernize it, make it brand-aligned, easier to manage its content and have enhanced security and relevant content. The old website was outdated in many aspects such as UI design, not mobile friendly, lacked functionality and didn't represent the organization effectively.
Several specific features were requested by CANIE, including profile creation, bookmarking resources, submitting and reviewing resources for the library, event listings, and a community forum.
Discovery Phase
We evaluated the existing site's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and worked closely with CANIE's team to determine its target audience and needs for a new website. We also closely examined CANIE's organizational goals, what they wanted to achieve with a new website, what they had to keep from the old site, and what they wanted to improve.
First, we recommended Craft CMS, a modern, user-friendly, highly customizable CMS for creating unique digital experiences.
Next, we gathered examples of visual and structural components, planned the site's architecture, followed by weekly standup meetings explaining the process, and conducted the sign-offs to keep the project moving.
We then designed the new website's user interface (UI). This involved creating wireframes and UI mockups of the new website, including layout/hierarchy, colour, typography, navigation, and other UI elements.
Solution
As part of the website improvements our team developed an online directory, and added more online forms and pages. We designed and integrated a Glasgow Protocol Form with an online form. We created the content form in a tabular format to represent the steps for becoming a qualified signatory. When a user completes the agreement, the form is automatically submitted to the CANIE's office administrator for review and approval.
We also simplified the organization's online donation process by integrating it with Stripe Payments as its primary payment processor. This allows donors to make one-time and recurring donations, suggested and "other" amount options using multiple currencies.
Convergine added the "Donate" button prominently featured in the top menu of the homepage and implemented a widget on the first step of the donation process.
